Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson born to British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby & Chris Watson in Paris, France. When she moved to Oxfordshire when she was five, she enrolled in the Dragon School. Emma decided to be an actor at age six. Over the course of several years she was enrolled in the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. She learned to sing, dancing and acting. At the age of 10, she was performing and taking as the main character in several Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. In 1999 casting began in the production of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered as a casting representative by her Oxford drama teacher. After eight auditions consistently, producer David Heyman told Emma and fellow applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they were cast as the three leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's first appearance in a film was with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. It also was the most successful film during 2001. Its opening weekend and day sales were record-breaking. The critics were impressed by the film and its performance. The Daily Telegraph, a widely read British paper, praised her for her exceptional performance. Emma was awarded five nominations for her outstanding performance. Later, she won the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actresses of the Film.
